Burly and the Bean was founded in 2015 by Justin and Vanessa Boone and their passion for coffee. Upon moving to City Heights, San Diego, they realized that their new neighborhood didn't have a coffee shop at all!

They decided to take their love of coffee and community and build a coffee shop that would become a hub for their neighborhood, serve the best coffee in San Diego, and put a smile on every face that walked through the doors.

After finding an ideal spot in the heart of their neighborhood, they did some planning, put all their pennies and hard work into their idea, and Burly and the Bean Coffee Cabin was born.

Vanessa came up with the name Burly and the Bean. She took the fact that Justin is a 6-foot-4 giant with tattoos (Burly) and she is a teeny 4-foot-10 Mexican-American (the Bean) and put the play on words together. She liked the fact that it sounded like a children’s storybook. Maybe one day a children’s book will come out!
